Knights Play well in Las Vegas

11 December 2009 - Team USA 47 – Farnham Knights 20
Western High School, Las Vegas

A fantastic week of work and play was capped off with a display of football no one involved was disappointed with. After arriving in Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon the team had a day and a half to settle in and take in the sites. Thursday morning saw the first practice at Ed Fountain Park, a purpose built, 3G Astroturf facility.

Game details:

Although the final score was in favour of the Team USA Eagles at 47-20, the true story wasn't told by the scoreline. Early on the Knights came out and went blow by blow with the heavily favoured Eagles and even pulled back within 6 to 20-14 late in the 2nd quarter when honorary Knight Jamell Mingo a Semi-Pro TB/CB/KR for the Las Vegas Demolition scampered in for a TD from long range. Juan Rimirez WR/TB/CB/PR also with the Demolition helped with a long run of his own earlier in the quarter. The Eagles came straight back and scored on the next drive to keep the game just out of reach. The final score for the Knights came from venerable FB Dave Carpenter who rumbled in with a 3 yard TD reception in the 3rd. The Knights Defense played their hearts out and never gave up coming up in the clutch with Interceptions and stops when they were needed to keep the game respectable. Knights Head Coach Ian Ellis stated after the game: "We are a million miles from where we were this time last year in Mesquite and I am very proud of the guys".

The final highlight to the night was when Coach Ellis presented OL Mike McMillan with the game ball. McMillan retires from the sport after a long and prosperous career and played a brilliant final game even after breaking his hand on the first offensive series of the game - carrying on and fighting in the spirit of a true Knight, and the spirit of this travel squad. No other Knights sustained any major injuries.

The Knights hope to come back to Las Vegas and the Minor League Football Hall of Fame game again in the near future. For more details/game stats please check out the Knights website in the coming weeks:
