The Farnham Knights are excited to welcome the Bristol Aztecs to Wilkinson Way this Sunday (12th August), for a battle between the 4th and 5th placed teams in the BAFA Southern Premier League.

The Aztecs, who have a 3-5 record this season, welcome back four players who travelled to Finland to compete for Team GB at the 2018 IFAF European Championships. On the other side of the field Farnham will have offensive lineman Tom Outhwaite in the line-up after making his debut for his country in Vantaa.

In their previous meeting this year, Bristol came out as deserved victors when Farnham travelled to the SGS WISE Campus in Filton in June. Following the match, Farnham head coach, Pete ‘Too Tall’ Fields, commented, "Bristol played well and punished us for the errors we made. I believe the game should have been closer, but that's not taking anything away from the Aztecs who were well prepared and have some real talent throughout their roster."

Speaking before Sunday's game, Fields believes the matchup at Farnham's home ground will be one of the league’s games of the season. "I always enjoy playing Bristol and this game stands to be a lot of fun. It's always great to welcome such a professional outfit and I'm certain the fans will be in for a treat."

Farnham currently sit in 5th place with a 2-6 record, with both wins coming against the Bury Saints. This includes their last game, which was a 41-6 victory at home, and the MVP of that match, Nick Roope, will be back in the mix against Bristol. Roope, who has played most of the season at quarterback, had the complete game against Bury as he handed the ball off, passed and even rushed for the Knights’ touchdowns.

On the defence, Eman Feyibunmi comes off the back of a defensive MVP-winning performance against Bury and has been working hard in practice to deliver another explosive performance on the D-line.

The Aztecs will be bringing a strong team to Farnham, including team captains Simon George (OL) and Ryan Morton (DL). Bristol head coach Chris Powles has said “We always look forward to these games against the Knights. We’ve got a rich history as we’ve been playing these guys for 25 years. They are always good games as it’s essentially a rivalry game for us. We’re looking forward to the game.”

Coach Fields summarised the feeling in the Knights camp, “With only two games remaining this season, both teams will want to put in winning performances. The Knights have a number of very impressive rookies that have been fighting for starting positions this Sunday and I’m excited to see what they can do.”

As always, the Farnham Knights would like to thank their sponsors, without whom this season wouldn’t have been possible. The Knights are proud to be supported by Tango Security, DNA Brickwork & Builders, LT Sports and American Football Direct. For more information on all of our sponsors click here.

The match kicks off at 14:30 at Farnham Rugby Club in Wilkinson Way. Parking and entry is free, and Farnham are hoping to build on the 60-strong crowd who attended the last home game. New fans and potential players are always welcome, and the rugby club will have the bar open before and after the match for food and drink. We look forward to seeing you there!
